2025: A Creative Homecoming
It was exactly five years ago that I made a resolution to “consume less and create more”. And as we all know, 2020 turned out to be quite the year, and I suddenly had a lot of time to create with nowhere to go and nothing to consume! I began gardening more than ever, taking up some projects around the house, and I even launched a business. In that period, I felt more happiness and energy through creating than I had in years.
In 2021 I had the opportunity to go back to work full-time in an exciting role I couldn’t pass up but over time, my creative pursuits sadly went dormant as I became busier and busier, very often overwhelmed, and found it nearly impossible to balance my creative dreams with my day job. Creativity took a back seat and I fell into a frustrating funk.
In the quest to reconnect with my creative spirit, I signed up for creativity coaching this past fall (yes, it’s a thing!) and it helped me begin to unpack a lot of the roadblocks that have been keeping me stuck and aiding my procrastination. As part of my coaching, I studied Kaizen, the Japanese concept of making small, incremental changes that lead to significant improvements over time and so far it’s helped me let go of some unrealistic expectations I had placed on myself and revisit my creative pursuits.
So, in honor of taking small steps and “creating more” in 2025, I’m excited to introduce A Cup of Kaizen, a weekly post dedicated to exploring small ideas and small creative projects to help bring more purpose and creativity into my life and hopefully yours too. I’m very excited to see what creative things the new year brings. Sign up below to stay connected!
